Donna Brazile calls hacked emails ‘fake narrative’ after admitting they’re real

Former Democratic National Committee chairwoman Donna Brazile this week accused the news media of being “complicit” in a “fake narrative” pushed by Russians in an attempt to influence the November election.

Though Brazile had previously admitted that the hacking contained emails written by her, she said in an interview on SiriusXM published Tuesday that they were setting up a “fake” narrative.

“We better understand the ramifications [of Russia’s election tampering] because if they can take down a woman of stature like [Democratic nominee] Hillary Clinton with bogus stuff, and then you have to disprove the negative to somehow or another make it truthful, you cannot,” Brazile said. “And when the national media is complicit, also, and carrying on the fake narrative, the fake emails, the spoofing, then you have to go out there and try to make it factual.”

In March, Brazile admitted that she used her former position as a CNN commentator to relay questions ahead of debates to Hillary Clinton during the Democratic primary.

For months, Brazile avoided confirming hacked emails from the campaign showed her forwarding the questions, which were asked at separate debates. But in an essay for Time magazine looking back on the hackings, she said it was true.

“[I]n October, a subsequent release of emails revealed that among the many things I did in my role as a Democratic operative and [Democratic National Committee] Vice Chair prior to assuming the interim D.N.C. Chair position was to share potential town hall topics with the Clinton campaign,” she said.
