It was extremely close, but House Speaker John Boehner has apparently squeaked by Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi in fundraising for this election cycle.
Boehner’s team reported Tuesday night that the speaker raised $102 million this cycle. According to Pelosi’s aides, she raised $101.3 million for Democrats.
Boehner, of Ohio, raised $4 million in October and gave a total of $23 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee, which is the House fundraising arm.
Pelosi has given $65 million to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee during this election cycle.
Democratic aides called the California lawmaker’s fundraising “record-breaking.”
Boehner aides touted his busy schedule raising money for Republican candidates this cycle, including a 14-state, 6,000-mile bus tour in support of 20 GOP incumbents and candidates.
While the fundraising numbers were nearly tied, the House majority is not.
House Republicans are set to pick up 5 to 9 seats Tuesday, which will add to their 233-199 advantage and could give them the largest GOP majority in decades.
