Cutrone puts her mouth where your money is

Celebrity fashion publicist and reality TV star Kelly Cutrone has a lot of ideas about politics. She doesn’t vote, she abhors fur and supports PETA. During family holidays she gets in trouble for mentioning Michael Moore to her fully Republican family. And she wants to see some female faces on the U.S. currency.

Cutrone stopped by the Front Row fashion event at Bethesda Row on Friday evening to sign copies of her new book, “Normal Gets You Nowhere,” and told Yeas & Nays about her plan to stimulate the country’s economy by making some lady-friendly dollars.

“If we make 70 percent of all buying decisions in the home, why aren’t we on the money?” she said. “I’m not saying get rid of Thomas Jefferson or get rid of George Washington, I’m saying why can’t we just issue a feminine counterpart?”

Cutrone suggested women such as Margaret Sanger, Betsy Ross and Harriet Tubman be featured on bills. “It will get the economy going,” she said. “All women will run out to spend their female dollars.”

While Washington always seem to be fighting a button-down stereotype, Cutrone simply refuses to believe our town is square. “I don’t think D.C. gets to call itself normal — it’s full of wild people,” she said. “Everybody who has been famous who has lived here, from Thomas Jefferson to George Washington, to Bill Clinton to Jimmy Carter to the Obamas, are totally freaks. None of them are normal.”
