SOTU’s purple fashion party

If you were at a State of the Union party and couldn’t hear a word from President Obama’s mouth, you had to go home with at least one visual: the color purple.

A neutral tone that pops on camera, the color was seen Wednesday night on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. (lavender suit), Vice President Biden (tie), Michelle Obama (Isaac Mizrahi dress with raison bell skirt) and Jill Biden (dress). There were even streaks of purple from across the aisle spotted on the tie of House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio.

Purple might be the ideal tone for reaching out to independent voters, who have been pivotal in swing states.

“Maybe policymakers have decided that purple — an equal mix of the two — is the way to go,” socialite Susanna Quinn told Yeas & Nays.

D.C. politico stylist Fabiana Mesquita said that in a town known for its navy blues, she sees the bright hue as a sign of rebirth.

“Both teams on the same side,” she said.

But did Boehner call Pelosi to color coordinate? Highly unlikely.

As for Madam Speaker’s shoes: Manolo Blahnik.
