Jay Carney joins CNN

Former Obama spokesman Jay Carney will join CNN as a political commentator, moving back into journalism after his time at the White House.

“Jay’s unique experience as both a journalist and a White House press secretary make him an invaluable voice for the network,” Sam Feist, CNN’s Washington bureau chief, said in a statement.

Prior to working in the White House as both press secretary for President Obama and communications director for Vice President Joe Biden, Carney was a journalist with Time magazine for 20 years.

Carney’s wife, Claire Shipman, is the senior national correspondent for ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Carney starts Wednesday night, offering his insight into Obama’s speech on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
