Freelance radio host Lisa Simeone sacked from NPR affiliate

Baltimore freelance radio host Lisa Simeone was sacked from a public radio music program called “Soundprint,” allegedly for serving on a committee for one of groups involved in the Occupy D.C. protest.

According to the Associated Press, producers of the program claimed Simeone “violated the public radio network’s code of ethics.” NPR told AP that Simeone is not an employee and that the network didn’t influence the decision to fire her.

“I don’t cover news. In none of the shows that I do, do I cover the news,” she said. “What is NPR afraid I’ll do? Insert a seditious comment into a synopsis of ‘Madame Butterfly’?” Simeone told AP. As of now, she is still host of “World of Opera,” a music and arts based program produced in North Carolina. Guess Simeone should have practiced radio silence.
