Jeb Bush to Senate GOP: Confirm Loretta Lynch

Jeb Bush believes the Senate should confirm Loretta Lynch.

Despite objections from numerous of his fellow Republicans, the former governor of Florida and likely 2016 presidential contender said the Senate should confirm Lynch’s nomination for attorney general.

Lynch was nominated in November by President Obama to replace outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder. However, Senate Republicans have delayed her confirmation.

“If someone is supportive of the president’s policies, whether you agree with them or not, there should be some deference to the executive,” Bush said at a GOP event in Concord, N.H. “It should not always be partisan.”

Presidents have the right to pick their teams, Bush said, adding that at the least, confirming Lynch would speed up the departure of Holder, who the GOP openly dislikes.

During the New Hampshire event, dubbed “Politics and Pies,” Bush took questions from GOP voters for nearly an hour.

Earlier in the day, Bush was in Jackson, Miss., to attend a bill signing ceremony with Republican Gov. Phil Bryant.

In Jackson, Bush said he will soon make up his mind about running for the Republican presidential nomination.

“I’m on a journey to kind of measure support,” Bush said. “Other people’s processes are not really that relevant to me. I’ll make up my mind in relatively short order. I’m excited about just the possibility of being in a position to consider it.”

If and when Bush joins the race for the presidential nomination, he will be in a relatively good spot. He is leading the Republican field, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls, with 16.5 points. His next closest competitors, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz have 15.3 and 10.5 points, respectively.
