Palin’s hunting peeves PETA and pros

Sarah Palin is coming under heavy fire for a hunting scene in the most recent episode of her TLC reality show, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.” The scene starts with the former Alaska governor, who is dressed in some tragic camouflage garb, saying, “We have to be able to bag an animal today.”

Then, she and her dad take their rifles to the Alaska tundra for a little caribou hunting. After several failed attempts (at least five) to shoot and kill the rather large caribou, and with much help from her pa and the fine editors on the show, trigger-happy Palin finally takes down Bambi’s cousin, which she feels “is a great feeling of accomplishment.”

Unsurprisingly, some folks feel a little differently about the “controversial” clip.

PETA vice president Dan Mathews released a statement sharing his thoughts about the episode, saying, “Sarah seems to think that resorting to violence and blood and guts may lure people into watching her boring show, but the ratings remain as dead as the poor animals she shoots.”

Meanwhile, others appear to be more offended by Palin’s “poor hunting skill,” and viewers even took shots at Mama Grizzly on her Facebook page. You won’t be able to find the negative comments on there now since they have all been deleted, but the Awl’s Abe Sauer managed to snag a few before they were taken down.

One poster writes, “What a joke. I was a fan before the show. No one who is a true hunter lets others carry their rifle or can’t load their own shells. Sarah, you are a phony in this area of your ‘skills.'” Another posted, “I would not hunt with her.”

A Yeas & Nays request to interview Palin still is under consideration, though SarahPAC did direct us to her Facebook page where Palin says, “Unless you’ve never worn leather shoes, sat upon a leather couch or eaten a piece of meat, save your condemnation of tonight’s episode. I remain proudly intolerant of anti-hunting hypocrisy. :)”
