Donald Trump is not happy with Bob Vander Plaats, a national co-chair of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign.
Trump took to Twitter and unleashed a torrent of tweets against Vander Plaats, who serves as CEO of the social conservative group the Family Leader.
“Why doesn’t phony [Vander Plaats] tell his followers all the times he asked for him and his family to stay at my hotels — didn’t like paying,” Trump tweeted.
Vander Plaats responded on Twitter and disputed the “phony” label.
“Still consider you a friend and you still can’t have my endorsement,” Vander Plaats replied on Twitter. “My friendship isn’t phony.”
But Trump was undeterred.
“[Vander Plaats] begged me to do an event while asking organizers for $100,000 for himself — a bad guy!” Trump also tweeted.
Vander Plaats responded on Twitter and challenged the veracity of Trump’s statements.
“[Y]ou know that’s not true,” Vander Plaats replied to Trump. “I gave you an introduction and opportunity and you charged the guy $100K. May work in NY not IA.”
In the summer of 2015, Trump appeared at events sponsored by the Family Leader in Iowa. Since some of its members and followers favor Cruz, Trump has taken to personal attacks with five days remaining until the first-in-the-nation caucuses. Trump ranks first in the Washington Examiner‘s newest GOP presidential power rankings.
