Healthcare.gov‘s insurance enrollment website was hacked in July, but no one’s information was compromised, according to federal officials.
The hackers, who also upload malicious software, did not see or take any personal data, the Department of Health and Human Services told the Wall Street Journal Thursday.
“Our review indicates that the server did not contain consumer personal information; data was not transmitted outside the agency, and the website was not specifically targeted. We have taken measures to further strengthen security,” the agency said in a statement.
The attack, discovered last week, was the first successful one since millions of Americans began using the website last year.
Experts told the House Science, Space and Technology Committee in January that healthcare.gov was not secure and easy to hack.
