Osmar Nunez-Vilches got his start in D.C.’s restaurant and nightlife business at Sesto Senso 10 years ago. Now, he’s come full circle, as he and business partner Rodrigo Garcia purchased the restaurant (and its companion lounge, Andalu) last week.
Sesto has a unique dual identity as a power lunch spot by day (it has taken to naming some of its menu items after regulars, such as journalist Jeff Birnbaum and former gossip guy Chuck Conconi), and bustling nightspot after dark. “I always wanted to do something” in the nightlife-rich neighborhood just south of Dupont Circle, said Nunez-Vilches, who manages Mate in Georgetown (Garcia manages L2 in Georgetown). “It has an amazing scene and a great restaurant.”
For now, he said he’s leaving Sesto the way it is, with any renovations focusing on Andalu downstairs. “It’s been like that for the past 10 years,” he said, citing the need to spruce up the space a bit.
