While President Obama made jokes about the ’80s and the ’20s, guests at Monday’s presidential debate were greeted by a face from the 1990s: Pauly Shore.
An avid follower of politics, the comedian tells Yeas & Nays he loved the debate — and even made a new friend there.
“I was hanging out with Beau Biden,” Shore said. “He gave me his cell number. He seems like a cool guy. I’m a fan of his dad’s.”
Shore says he also met members of Biden’s security detail. “Some of the Secret Service guys came up to me and said ‘Encino Man’ was their favorite movie,” he said.
Shore, who declined to say which media organization gave him a credential to get into the debate (“It’s private,” he said), hung out with reporters of all political stripes. “All the Fox people are funny,” he said. “The MSNBC people are cool.” He snapped a photo with Sean Hannity, said hi to Chris Matthews, and of course enjoyed watching Obama and Mitt Romney spar.
Shore’s political special “Pauly-tics,” which includes interviews with Herman Cain, Barney Frank, Ralph Nader, Michael Steele and Larry King along with Shore’s stand-up comedy, debuts Oct. 26 on Showtime.
