Hillary Clinton on Saturday praised President Obama for cleaning up the “mess” left by President George W. Bush, but stressed that she’s not running for his third term.
Still, she promised to continue to push for many of his economic priorities like raising the minimum wage and equal pay for women — Democratic initiatives that she said work to improve the country’s economy.
“Although I’m not running for my husband’s third term or Obama’s third term, I’m running for my first term, I’m going to do what works to build a strong economy again. I will proudly carry forward the record of Democratic achievement,” she said during a speech addressing Alabama Democrats in Hoover, Ala.
Clinton said Obama “doesn’t get the credit he deserves” from saving the American economy from the Republican mess created by Bush in the eight years prior.

If elected as the next president, Clinton spoke about a laundry-list of priorities similar to what Democrats have been pushing for in the White House and on Capitol Hill over Obama’s term. Some items she mentioned in Alabama are raising the minimum wage, ensuring women get paid the same as their male counterparts, and solving climate change by transitioning to clean energy, a move she said would create “millions of new jobs.”
A Boston Globe poll released Friday found that Clinton leads the other Democratic 2016 contenders in the key state of New Hampshire after this week’s first debate. Thirty-seven of those polled supported Clinton, a two-point lead of the 35 percent who said they would support Sen. Bernard Sanders, I-Vt.
