The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee raised $4.5 million in January — $2 million more than its Republican counterpart.
The DSCC, the political committee charged with winning back the Senate majority for the Democratic Party, closed the month with more than $2.6 million in cash on hand and $15 million in operational debt. The NRSC, formerly the National Republican Senatorial Committee, brought in $2.5 million last month and closed the period with $4.1 million in the bank.
The DSCC was particularly encouraged because losing nine seats and being ousted from the majority in the 2014 midterm elections hasn’t hampered the committee’s ability to raise money. Additionally, the DSCC remains competitive with the NRSC, although it trails in cash on hand early in the cycle.
“Democrats are energized and engaged in our fight to take back the Senate,” DSCC executive director Tom Lopach said in a statement. “Our supporters want to see a Senate that governs responsibly instead of playing political games, and we’re grateful that they’re standing with us as we lay the foundation for a successful 2016.”
