Obama meets with Hillary Clinton

President Obama held a private meeting with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the White House Wednesday, welcoming the likely 2016 Democratic presidential frontrunner as speculation about her future grows.

The Obama-Clinton meeting was not included on the president’s public schedule for Wednesday.

“As is well known, President Obama and Secretary Clinton enjoy getting together in person on a regular basis,” a White House official said. “This afternoon they met privately in the Oval Office for about an hour to catch up and enjoy an informal discussion on a wide range of issues.”

The White House provided no further details about the meeting.

If Clinton decides to run for the White House, she will have to determine how much to distance herself from Obama, a president whose approval ratings are hovering around 40 percent. Given her position in the Obama Cabinet and the numerous White House meetings between the leaders, the former secretary of state could struggle to separate herself from the president.

Obama played host for much of Wednesday, also welcoming Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to the White House to discuss legislative priorities.
