Poll: Trump up nearly 30 points in N.Y.

Donald Trump holds a 29-percentage-point lead over his nearest Republican presidential contender in a new poll of New York.

Trump leads the Wall Street Journal/NBC New York/Marist poll with the support of 54 percent of those surveyed, followed by Ohio Gov. John Kasich at 25 percent and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at 16 percent.

“If there’s someone to watch in the closing hours, closing days, it’s Kasich,” said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, in the Wall Street Journal. “Trump people are pretty baked in.”

The poll found Trump does best among voters from union households, Catholics and Tea Party supporters, according to the Journal. The poll showed Trump performing worst among Protestants and college graduates.

The Journal also noted that nine out of 10 Republican voters are white, as compared to the Democratic primary where only 55 percent of voters are white.

The survey of 313 likely Republican voters was conducted from April 10-13 with a 5.5 percentage point margin of error.
