Sarah Palin joined Donald Trump Wednesday in condemning actions taken by Ted Cruz surrogates during the Iowa caucuses when they falsely told Ben Carson supporters that Carson, an evangelical favorite, had dropped out of the Republican presidential race.
Cruz admitted that the allegations against some of his supporters were true, and apologized to Carson. For Palin, who has endorsed Trump, that wasn’t enough.
“Sen. Ted Cruz was spot on when he once noted that ‘millions of Americans are asking for accountability and truth.’ Which is why it’s so curious — and saddens us — this lack of accountability with the lies of Cruz’s own campaign,” the former Alaska governor wrote in a Facebook post.
Palin particularly faulted the actions of Rep. Steve King, a prominent Cruz backer and kingmaker in northwest Iowa.
Palin writes, “[King] told voters Carson was dropping out … That’s a dirty trick. Dr. Carson deserved better. The voters deserved better!”
Palin then derisively likened Cruz to President Obama.
“We’ve had eight years of a reckless president, accountable to no one … The Cruz campaign’s actions to destroy a good man’s efforts to serve are no different than Obama’s practice of not holding anyone accountable. Typical politics. Typical politicians,” Palin wrote.
Trump, who came in second behind Cruz in Monday’s Iowa Republican caucuses, is calling for a new vote in light of the revelations.
