Of the 2016 presidential candidates, Donald Trump would be the most controversial Thanksgiving dinner guest to host, according to a new poll.
As the country prepares to observe the national holiday Thursday, 46 percent of Americans in the latest Public Policy Polling survey say Trump would “ruin Thanksgiving Dinner” if he were invited to celebrate the occasion at their home, a greater percentage than that earned by all other candidates combined.
Most believe the outspoken billionaire would disrupt Thanksgiving Dinner by saying something “inappropriate” at the table.
Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton is viewed as the second-most likely candidate to spoil Americans’ turkey dinners, with 22 percent believing she would say something untoward. Seven percent said the same of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, 6 percent of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, 4 percent of Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and just 1 percent of Marco Rubio of Florida.
Despite being second-most likely to wreck Thanksgiving, the greatest number of voters chose Clinton as the candidate they’d like to have join them for the holiday meal. Twenty-four percent would like to host the former secretary of state while 18 percent would prefer to eat turkey and mashed potatoes with Carson.
Only 17 percent of voters would want to invite Trump while 6 percent would be interested in having Bush or Rubio over for Thanksgiving dinner.
The survey of 1,360 registered voters was conducted from Nov. 16-17 and contains a margin of error plus or minus 2.7 percent.
