Republican Senator Has a Theory on Why Aliens Won't Talk to Us

On Wednesday afternoon, Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy offered his theory as to why aliens have not yet made contact with human civilization.

Kennedy was discussing with reporters the ongoing controversy over comments President Donald Trump reportedly made during a meeting with lawmakers to discuss the future of 700,000 immigrants who were brought to the United States as children. According to the Washington Post, Trump referred to African nations as “shithole countries,” and asked why more people from European countries like Norway don’t come to the United States.

“Here’s a newsflash for you: Sometimes, people swear, okay?” Kennedy told reporters. “It’s not productive.”

“I don’t support swearing, but I have sworn before,” he added. He indicated Trump’s comments were not helpful to the ongoing DACA negotiations, but that the lawmakers who told reporters about Trump’s remarks were not helping the situation either.

He continued, arguing the ensuing feud between members of Congress who were present at the meeting, yet who have put forward differing recollections of Trump’s statements—namely, Sen. Dick Durbin, who maintains Trump said “shithole,” and Sens. Tom Cotton and David Perdue, who say they don’t remember that word being used—is immature and is perhaps the reason aliens haven’t made contact.

“That’s why the aliens won’t talk to us,” Kennedy said with a chuckle. “They look at all of this stuff, and they go, ‘These people . . . they’re 13-year-olds.’”
