Fashion movie viewed by fashion-first females.

It was a Wednesday night, and it was a screening in a movie theater, but that didn’t prevent women from donning their most fashionable duds for the Washington showing of “The September Issue.”

In what was probably the first time the carpet of the Landmark Theater was treaded upon by a combined 50 feet of high-heel inches, women packed the theater for the documentary that follows the making of Vogue magazine’s yearly “bible” — the 800-plus-page September issue.

It was a intimate portrayal of Vogue editor Anna Wintour unlike many have seen before — interacting with her daughter, talking about her family, mentioning then-on-the-rise designer Thakoon. However, the movie mainly served as was a confirmation of the “Devil” persona Meryl Streep’s character captured in “The Devil Wears Prada.”

We guess a majority in attendance hated that it was a dark movie theater, forcing them to sit in their snug dresses without the option to strut around in a well-lit room — especially because the fashion film could channel anyone’s inner model. That was until the afterparty, which turned the W Hotel into in an impromptu fashion show.

On the rooftop, natch, women finally were able to bring out their inner Wintours, critiquing each other’s outfits over glasses of champagne. The main difference, though? Ladies were overheard laying out words of praise to one another as opposed to the reticent, yet harsh, Wintour they just witnessed on the big screen.

Though many probably opted to not sample the homemade marshmallows and chocolate-covered strawberries out of fear of not being able to fit into their new dresses again, one thing almost everyone did was pose to have their picture taken and transformed into a cover shot for Vogue or get in some face time with the founders of the online designer fashion site Gilt Groupe — Alexis Maybank and Alexandra Wilkis Wilson (right)

Some of the other lovlies spotted at the first “W Happening” — the W brand’s fashion, design and music events held at W Hotels around the world every month — included from the White House, Jill Biden’s communication director, Courtney O’Donnell, Deputy Social Secretary Sally Armbruster, Christina Sevilla, Mona Sutphen and Katie Johnson. Also in attendance were hostesses Darcy Jones, Elizabeth Thorp, Katie Rost, CNN’s Michelle Jaconi and Tina D’Souza Sutphen, sports reporter Lindsay Czarniak, Fox anchor Will Thomas, Amy Baier, and Susanna Quinn.
