Former President Bill Clinton appeared at a Team Hillary campaign rally in Des Moines, Iowa Saturday where he praised his wife’s performance in the first Democratic debate and her 11-hour testimony before the House Select Committee on Benghazi.
The popular former president spoke highly of former secretary of state and Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, saying he was “immensely proud of her” after watching last week’s debate in Las Vegas, Nev., where Clinton emerged as the winner.
“And I was proud to be a Democrat because you know every difference of opinion was over whether this or that course would be better for the country,” he added, taking a dig at the name-calling and heated exchanges that have occurred in both Republican debates.

“Nobody was out there trying to denigrate anybody or get anybody to stop thinking,” he said.
During Clinton’s day-long testimony on Capitol Hill Thursday, the former president said he had several friends “emailing me furiously saying [Hillary] was doing great.
“To every one of them I wrote back, ‘I think I’ll vote for her,'” he quipped.
Clinton is scheduled to participate in the Iowa Democratic Party’s Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner Saturday evening alongside rivals Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley. The event, which doubles as a presidential forum and fundraiser for the Democratic Party, is said to play a significant role in determining the success of each candidate in Iowa.
