Donald Trump stepped up his attack on Republican presidential rival Ted Cruz’s wife, mocking Heidi Cruz’s looks on Twitter.

Late Wednesday night, Trump quoted a tweet that included an unflattering image of Heidi Cruz alongside Melania Trump, the billionaire’s third wife. The meme included the words, “no need to ‘spill the beans’ the images are worth a thousand words.”

Cruz responded early Thursday morning, calling Trump’s wife “lovely” and adding, “real men don’t attack women.”

The back-and-forth barbs between Trump and Cruz regarding their respective wives has attracted feverish attention and earned lots of free media for the candidates.

It started after an anti-Trump super PAC ad featured a photo of Trump’s wife, prompting Trump to threaten to “spill the beans” about Cruz’s wife. Cruz replied by saying he had nothing to do with the ad and called Trump a “coward,” which Trump later dismissed as an explanation from “Lyin’ Ted.”

The Twitter feud has spanned multiple days and dominated media coverage in a week when terrorists attacked American ally Belgium and President Obama visited Cuba, the first sitting U.S. president to do so since 1928.
