Scott Brown does not have a wandering eye

Lessons learned at the March of Dimes Congressional Cookoff: some members of Congress actually know their way around a kitchen, and Sen. Scott Brown does not look at women who are not his wife.

At the event Wednesday, which pitted members’ culinary skills against one another, Brown served up lobster mac and cheese while his wife, Gail Huff, chatted up a steady line of customers. One woman told Huff that she’d been told they share a resemblance. Huff asked Brown his opinion. “I don’t look at other women,” Brown told the woman. “I don’t even see you.” Good to know, senator.

Elsewhere, Sen. Pat Roberts bragged about the spiciness of his “Prairie Fire” dish — peppers filled with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. “The water’s over there,” he told Yeas & Nays.

Sen. Richard Lugar stood smiling in his apron while his wife, Charlene, fretted over their emptying serving dish of gorgonzola truffles. “We need a refill,” she said. “It looks kind of gross.” (She needn’t have worried. Former senator Blanche Lincoln admitted to Yeas & Nays that the truffles were her favorite, tied with Rep. Mike Thompson’s scallop ceviche.)

A panel later declared Rep. Ruben Hinojosa’s chicken flautas, Sen. Roy Blunt’s bruschetta, Rep. Sanford Bishop’s curry chicken, Rep. John Mica’s dates with blue cheese, and Rep. Glenn Thompson’s hot wing dip the night’s winners. Event attendees voted Rep. David Scott’s gumbo their favorite.
