‘SNL’ turns Harry Reid into a ‘birther’

Candidates often turn their backs on unpopular members of their party directly before an election, but this week’s “Saturday Night Live” turned it up a notch in the show’s depiction of Harry Reid and President Obama.

Reid, played by newbie Paul Brittain, thanks the president, played by Fred Armisen, for coming — and then goes all “birther” on him.

“For one thing, I don’t understand why if you were born in this country, you won’t just show us your birth certificate,” Brittain said. “I mean, is that too much to ask?”

Armisen, playing along, agrees.

“You’re right, I probably should,” he said. “You make a good point.”
