The Other One: Bush twin Barbara coming to D.C.

Her sister always steals the spotlight. In the last few years, Jenna Bush Hager made headlines by promoting her book, getting married, and getting a gig on “The Today Show,” but the other Bush twin, Barbara Bush, is climbing out of the woodwork and opening up about her work to the press. She is slated to discuss global health equity at a luncheon at the National Press Club on May 26.

The (slightly) older Bush daughter worked at a children’s hospital in South Africa when her dad was in office and, more recently, founded Global Health Corps with her sister, a program modeled after Teach for America with fellows currently working in East Africa and the United States.

Compared with other children of politicians, the Bush twins have been more open to media exposure. Chelsea Clinton, even while campaigning for her mom, never once talked to the press and Meghan McCain closed the door on most of the media during a recent visit to George Washington University.

Nikki Schwab is a member of the National Press Club’s Speakers Committee, which is planning the event.
