Pro-Cruz super PAC: Beware ‘Trumpcare’

Supporters of Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign have released a new ad set to air in Iowa and South Carolina warning voters to beware “Trumpcare.”

The ad, from a group of pro-Cruz super political action committees called Keep the Promise, shows clips of President Obama, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump making similar statements about the need for all Americans to receive healthcare coverage.

“First there was Hillarycare … then there was Obamacare … we can’t afford Trumpcare,” a narrator says in the ad. “Donald, don’t you know Hillarycare, Obamacare, and Trumpcare are government-run healthcare?”

The televised ad is part of an existing $2.5 million ad buy, and the 30-second spot will air in Iowa through the caucus and begin airing in South Carolina next week.

Kellyanne Conway, president of Keep the Promise, said the conservative response to Obamacare led to “massive electoral gains for Republicans” in 2010 and 2014, but was not an issue when former GOP nominee Mitt Romney dueled with Obama in 2012.

“We should not be fooled again,” Conway said in a statement. “Who can we trust to protect freedom and choice in our healthcare? Ted Cruz, who literally stood against Obamacare and on his feet for 21 hours straight on the Senate floor, or Donald Trump who was taking his cues from Washington liberals and advocating for universal healthcare, the ultimte goal of both Hillarycare [and] Obamacare?”

Cruz, who ranks first in the Washington Examiner‘s newest GOP presidential power rankings, plans to hold seven public events in Iowa on Tuesday.
