Tucker: Plenty of jokes to be had at Obama’s expense

Chris Tucker thinks making fun of President Barack Obama should be left “to us” — and, yes, he means black comedians like him and Wanda Sykes.

The comedic actor turned out Wednesday night to the 30th anniversary gala for the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, alongside multiple members from the Congressional Black Caucus, African model Chanel Iman, TV personality Paul Wharton and soap opera star Victoria Rowell.

Tucker has yet to do a standup routine since the White House got its new occupants, but told us he’s got new material in the works. When we asked for a sneak peak, he told us the one aspect of Obama that is sure to make it in his routine — his dance skills.

“The way he dances. Definitely. He’s got a funny dance,” Tucker told Yeas & Nays.

Luckily for the president, his wife and what’s she’s wearing often get the spotlight when the first couple’s on the dance floor. Wednesday night, model Iman got plenty of attention just by donning a black-and-white dress by Jason Wu, designer of Michelle Obama’s attention-grabbing inaugural gown.

Also spotted giving Chris Tucker some good material for his stand-up: Congresswoman Barbara Lee, D-Calif.

After talking to Yeas about poking fun at the president, Tucker was tapped on the shoulder by Lee, who whipped out a pen and her business card (perhaps to inform him who she was) and asked for his phone number.

She did earlier tell us her one-day fast for Darfur as a member of the Congressional Black Caucus was to end that evening, so maybe she was looking for a dinner companion.

Washington is known to be a town where celebrities play politicians.  But now it seems like politicians are thinking they’re the celebrities.
