The surest sign that the 2012 campaign season is officially heating up is coming from Hollywood, where President Obama has booked a couple more fundraisers for his reelection bid. On Sept. 26, he’ll first head to the House of Blues on Sunset Boulevard, where $250 will get people in the door and $10,000 will get them a photo with the president. Then he’ll nosh in style with celebrities at Fig & Olive restaurant on Melrose Place, where he’ll dine with couples that paid $35,000 for tickets (singles are only forking over $17,900) — with all proceeds split between the Obama Victory Fund and the Democratic National Committee.
Obama has been a frequent visitor to Los Angeles, where he attended two celebrity-studded fundraisers in April — but that must be because he knows the money will be there. Overall, the entertainment industry forked over $40 million to Democrats during the last presidential election. And so far, showbiz figures have contributed $2.53 million of the $39 million Obama collected during the first half of this year — with sizeable chunks of cash coming from employees at CAA, DreamWorks SKG and Sony.
