Brian Williams, currently on a six-month suspension as anchor of NBC’s “Nightly News,” resigned from the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation Board of Directors on Thursday, according to a statement from the Foundation’s top officials.
“Brian Williams has resigned from the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation Board of Directors,” read the statement by Co-Chairmen Jack Jacobs, a Medal of Honor recipient, and Bruce Whitman and President and CEO Ron Rand. “He had served in that position since September 2006.”
The news was first reported by the military news publication Stars and Stripes.
Williams fell under public scrutiny in early February after he admitted to claiming falsely that he had been aboard a U.S. military aircraft downed by enemy fire in Iraq. He has told the tale with varying details since 2003.
Williams’ six-month suspension by NBC is unpaid.
