It’s finally Election Day in America, but some in media are still deeply upset over the events and rhetoric leading up to this moment.
“I really feel bad,” CBS News’ Bob Schieffer said Tuesday. “I’m getting the feeling now that when people see me pop up on television they say, ‘Well, here’s old Bob to dump on the whole thing again.'”
“It’s a sad thing what we’re seeing happening here and I worry about young people voting for the first time, you know. That should be such a big experience,” he added.
One of Schieffer’s CBS colleagues chimed in to note that there are many reports of “people saying it’s not always like this.”
Schieffer countered, “I think we’ve got to kind of reassure young people this is out of the ordinary. Things like this don’t always happen. It’s not this way.”
CBS’ Charlie Rose added in, “I have a contrarian theory to that which is sometimes it takes — you’ve got to go to the bottom in order to wake up and take a hard look at our political system and fix it.”
“I hope so,” Schieffer sighed.
