Obama’s job approval at highest level since 2013

The share of people who approve of the job President Obama is doing is at its highest level in nearly three years, but it’s still short of a majority.

According to a new weekly Gallup poll, 50 percent of Americans approve of Obama’s performance, his highest weekly average since May 2013.

Since the beginning of the year, Obama’s job approval rating has moved up five points. His 50 percent average is also three points higher than the average of his weekly ratings for his seventh year in office.

Obama remains a polarizing president, as 87 percent of Democrats approve of his job as commander in chief, while only 11 percent of Republicans say the same.

Compared to his predecessors’ final March in the White House, Obama easily outperforms former President George W. Bush (32 percent), but lags behind former President Bill Clinton (63 percent) and former President Ronald Reagan (52 percent).

The survey of 3,563 adults was conducted Feb. 28-March 6 and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
