It’s not every day you get the president to be your keynote speaker, but the nation’s largest gay rights group will get just that this weekend.
Saturday night, President Obama will deliver the keynote address at the 13th annual Human Rights Campaign Dinner. Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I., will honor Judy and Dennis Shepard, parents of the late Matthew Shepard, at the dinner with the inaugural Edward M. Kennedy National Leadership award.
“It is fitting that he will speak to our community on the night that we pay tribute to his friend and mentor Sen. Edward Kennedy, who knew that as president, Barack Obama would take on the unfinished business of this nation — equal rights for the LGBT community, and for every person who believes in liberty and justice for all,” said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese.
