New England Patriots wide receiver Chad Ochocinco learned a little bit about politics Tuesday night. Tweeting that he couldn’t sleep, the Super Bowl-bound athlete turned on the State of the Union, watching the annual speech for the first time.
Ochocinco asked questions via Twitter about the length of the speech, how the president memorizes it (he doesn’t, he uses a teleprompter…duh), and who was the sour-looking chap sitting behind President Obama‘s left shoulder. “Anybody notice the guy over Obama’s left shoulder doesn’t seem very happy and he’s not smiling. He’s not clapping with joy,” Ochocinco noted. Once Ochocinco discovered that that gentleman was House Speaker John Boehner he grew very concerned, asking, via Twitter, if Boehner was OK.
On Wednesday, he followed up with the Republican Speaker once more. “Hello Mr. Boehner, hoping you are in better spirits today. If all else seems bad in life just remember I love you kind sir,” he wrote. And this time, Boehner responded. “Thanks & good luck in the Super Bowl we’ll see you in the playoffs next year,” Boehner wrote, signaling that he remained, first, a Bengals fan.
