Smithsonian, QVC to sell faux gems

Accepting O.J. Simpson’s acquittal suit was just a little too trashy for the Smithsonian Institution, but partnering with TV shopping network QVC? That feels just right.

The Smithsonian brokered a deal on Thursday with the TV shopping network to produce a line of jewelry based on its National Gem and Mineral Collection, according to the Associated Press.

The QVC collection will be produced this fall and will include replicas of the museum’s pieces.  The Hope Diamond and Marie Antoinette earings are among the institution’s 375,000 specimens.

Carol LeBlanc of the Smithsonian says the fashionable jewelry line will educate the public about the institution and it’s pieces.

Educated by QVC? Be prepared.
