O’Malley’s transition team spans races, interests

The 40 members of the O’Malley-Brown transition steering committee will search for people from various races, regions, vocations and beliefs to staff the incoming administration, Lt. Gov.-elect Del. Anthony Brown announced Thursday.

“This process, the transition is going to be about performance, not politics,” Brown said during a noontime news conference in Baltimore. “It’s going to be about finding those who exhibit a passion for service regardless of a party affiliation.”

The committee includes members of Maryland’s business, legal, religious and other communities. At least one, including former National Association for the Advancement of Colored People president Kweisi Mfume, had recently stepped off the campaign trail.

“I know that some of you standing behind me were thinking to yourselves you were going to have a few weeks off,” O’Malley said. “Those weeks just ended and I want to thank you for coming to this responsibility and agreeing to serve.”

The committee will meet for the first time Tuesday in the administration’s transition office on the 20th floor of Baltimore’s William Donald Schaefer Tower.
