Journalists crush it for CNN cameraman

There was an outpouring of support for veteran CNN cameraman Jerry Thompson at Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar on Wednesday night.More than 400 friends, colleagues and mojito drinkers rallied to raise money for Thompson, who was diagnosed with brain cancer and lost his job after his medical leave was exhausted at CNN.

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, John King and Dana Bash, FOX News’ Brett Baier and NBC 4’s Wendy Rieger were just a few of the celebrity bartenders who crushed mint to collect some cash for their friend.

“I used to be a bartender in college, so I love this,” King told Yeas & Nays. “It’s my favorite job ever, so it’s like being reunited with my happiness.”

The only rivalry among news networks on this night was who made the best mojito.

“Wolf came and went. He was like a 30-second sound bite behind the bar,” Rieger joked.

No matter which celeb bartender served it up best, the donations (at last count, $75,000) are sure to serve Thompson and his family well.
