Mike Pence said only that he trusts Donald Trump to pick good advisors, when asked about allegations against two of the men assisting his presidential bid.
“I trust Donald Trump’s judgment to assemble around this team a group that is going to move us forward and help us win,” Pence said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
Pence, who is Trump’s vice presidential pick, had been asked by host Chuck Todd about Stephen Bannon and Roger Ailes.
Bannon, who is on leave as chief editor for the conservative Breitbart News website to serve as Trump’s campaign chairman, has been charged in the past with domestic violence and voter fraud.
Ailes, who is a Trump advisor, was recently forced to resign as chairman of Fox News over charges of sexual harassment from several former prominent news anchors.
Todd asked Pence if he was “comfortable” with both men assisting the campaign, considering the allegations against them. Other than saying Bannon has denied the allegations, Pence stayed away from discussing specifics, instead saying twice he trusts Trump to surround himself with good advisors.
“I promise you the person leading Donald Trump’s campaign is Donald Trump,” Pence said. “He and I talk every day, sometimes multiple times a day.”
