“Mad Men” actress January Jones got her feet wet on Capitol Hill on Tuesday advocating her love for those cuddly critters land-dwellers fear most — sharks.
Has the Hollywood starlet gone mad?
“I’ve been fascinated by them since I was a little girl,” Jones told Yeas & Nays. “Overfishing of sharks is an extreme problem that we need to remedy so that our oceans can stay in balance.”
The actress, who plays Betty Draper in the blockbuster AMC prime-time drama, loves those sharp-toothed sea creatures so much that she actually went swimming with them in the Bahamas recently with the environmental group Oceana.
Jones now is on the Hill lobbying the lawmakers who could save her beloved friends. After a full day Tuesday, she is set to meet with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Rep. Sam Farr, D-Calif., on Wednesday.
“It’s not an easy sell ’cause they’re not cute, cuddly animals like pandas or koala bears,” Jones said. “Even baby sharks look like sharks, with their teeth.”
For her first trip to D.C., Jones has a busy schedule, but she said she planned to drive through the city at night to see the monuments. “I feel like a politician the way my day is scheduled,” she joked.
