Next GOP debate to feature fewer candidates in primetime

Fox Business Network announced Tuesday the next primetime Republican debate, scheduled for January 14, could be limited to as few as six candidates.

Candidates must qualify for the main debate by placing in the top six of a recent national poll or within the top five in an Iowa or New Hampshire poll, according to a statement by the network.

The remaining Republicans will need to register at least 1 percent support in a recent national poll to qualify for the undercard debate.

The sixth GOP debate will take place in North Charleston, S.C., two days after the president’s State of the Union address. The Republican National Committee confirmed it is partnerning with Fox Business for the event.
