Billionaire Rachel “Bunny” Lambert Mellon celebrated her 100th birthday last week in Upperville, Va., inviting 14 family members and close friends including Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, according to the Fauquier Times-Democrat.
If her name rings a bell, the reclusive Mellon made headlines recently for her “sugar mama” role in the John Edwards scandal. Mellon doled out cash that was used to relocate Edwards’ mistress and baby mama Rielle Hunter to California during the presidential campaign.
She’s also responsible for the design of the White House Rose Garden and the East Garden, which she began when John F. Kennedy was in office.
More recently, she sat down with Vanity Fair for the magazine’s August issue, but only allowed photographs of her estate, not herself. Mellon hasn’t been photographed publicly since 1968.
At her party, guests wore hats and sang songs from World War II, the Times-Democrat reported. Mellon’s actual birthday was Aug. 9.
