Hillary Clinton’s unofficial adviser Sidney Blumenthal complained to the secretary of state that the Obama administration was too critical of Newt Gingrich and helpful to Mitt Romney.
According to the latest batch of emails released by the State Department, Blumenthal was outraged that the Obama adviser David Axelrod slammed Gingrich, saying that by doing do Axelrod was “acting as an adjunct to the Romany campaign.”
In an all-caps rant, Blumenthal argued that the administration shouldn’t help the strongest Republican challenger to Barack Obama. Axelrod had said, “Remember the higher a monkey climbs up a pole, the more you can see his butt … now that Gingrich is climbing, we’ll see how people like the view.”
“POLITICAL MALPRACTICE,” Blumenthal exclaimed “WHY IS OBAMA TEAM ATTACKING GINGRICH?!?! WHY ARE THEY ACTING AS AN ADJUNCT TO THE ROMNEY CAMPAIGN!?!?!” He contended that Obama’s chances were better against Romney than Gingrich.
Blumenthal also cited a Rassmussen Reports survey finding 49 percent of GOP primary voters think Gingich has the best shot of beating Obama, whereas only 24 percent believe Romney could do it. Romney was the 2012 nominee and he lost to Obama.
Clinton, replied seven hours later, “Who knows???”
