Jon Stewart tells media to ‘stop your whining’ about Trump

Comedian and former “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart said it’s time for the news media to stop obsessing over President Trump’s ill feelings for them and engage in some “self-reflection and improvement.”

Appearing Monday night on CBS’s “The Late Show,” Stewart said the press should “stop your whining,” and he likened its often hostile relationship with the new White House to a bad breakup.

“This breakup with Donald Trump has given you, the media, an amazing opportunity for self-reflection and improvement,” he said. “Instead of worrying about whether Trump is un-American, or if he thinks you’re the enemy, or if he’s being mean to you, or if he’s going to let you go back into the briefings, do something for yourself. Self-improvement! Take up a hobby. I recommend journalism.”

Throughout the campaign and into his first month in office, Trump has kept up his criticism of the press, even announcing over the weekend that he would not be attending the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

Some in the media have characterized his critiques, he often calls whole news outlets “fake news,” as a threat to democracy.
