Gore jumps back into politics

Former Vice President Al Gore made a big splash by dipping back into politics this week, appearing on his own network, Current TV, as a political analyst. He gave opinions on everything ranging from Supreme Court decisions to Karl Rove and the Koch Brothers, and he said the “most significant endorsement of the day” were Rupert Murdoch’s tweets supporting former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who Murdoch called the “only candidate with genuine big vision” for the United States. He also commented on negative ad campaigns and their effect on campaign politics, comparing the Clinton-Gore ads run during the 1996 campaign against Bob Dole to the recent rash of attack ads from outside groups against Newt Gingrich, saying, “that opened the proverbial flood gates… devastating on Newt Gingrich.” Though he resisted being compared to the former house speaker, he did tell Current TV host Cenk Uygur that he sees Gingrich surviving the storm. “He still has something to say … the media on all sides has an interest in keeping this going. He will go to South Carolina and probably Florida.”
