Sanders: ‘I would love love love to run against Donald Trump’

Donald Trump’s apperance in Bernie Sanders’ home city of Burlington, Vermont made the Democratic presidential candidate more eager than ever to face the businessman in a general election.

Trump said he was excited to run against Sanders, who was once the mayor of Burlington. “It would be a dream come true for me as well. I would love love love to run against Donald Trump,” Sanders told Democracy for America supporters during a conference call on Thursday night.

A recent Quinnepiac poll showed Sanders ahead of Trump nationally by 51 percent to 38 percent. Sanders frequently criticizes Trump for his rhetoric about Muslims and Hispanics, as well as his support for the wealthy.

“It’s not just this man’s ignorance, bigotry or demagoguery,” Sanders said. “It is that this is a guy, and I think many of his supporters don’t even know this, he thinks that the $7.25 minimum wage is too high. This is a guy who wants to give hundreds of billions of dollars in tax breaks to billionaires like himself. This is a guy who thinks climate change is a hoax by the Chinese to impact american manufacture. Where he comes up with these ideas, I have no idea!”

Sanders went on to call Trump a “pathological liar” whose beliefs “have no basis in fact.” The Vermont senator noted Trump’s comment about Muslims cheering as the Twin Towers fell.

“Bottom line,” Sanders concluded, “I would love to run against Trump and I think we would not only win, we would win with a very good vote.”
