Paul: ‘Chameleon’ Trump has been ‘on every side of every issue’

Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul, R-Ky. has savaged fellow candidate Donald Trump lately.

From telling voters Saturday that they should not select someone whose answer for everything is “the Mexicans are going to pay for it,” to saying on “Fox News Sunday” that GOP voters should not “reward vulgarity,” Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul, R-Ky. has made his opinions on The Donald known.

“I don’t think we should reward vulgarity,” said Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Sunday. “And I don’t think vulgarity equates with insight.”

Paul said on “Fox News Sunday” that he didn’t think the GOP nominee should be chosen by those who can shout the loudest or call people names like stupid or fat.

“I came out of the Tea Party movement,” said Paul. “And part of [that] was that we were upset with fake conservatives and Republicans who truly weren’t conservative. Republicans who were for Obamacare and Republicans who were for the bank bailouts. That’s Donald Trump. He’s been for all these liberal policies.”

“And now because he can stand up and say vulgar things” and voters call him “a truth teller” he is receiving support, said a disgusted-sounding Paul. “The truth is, what is he for? I have no idea whether he is conservative, he really could be a liberal for all I’m concerned. I have no idea what his real philosophy is, other than he’s for promoting himself.”

Paul was one of the first Republican presidential candidates to criticize Donald Trump, nearly two weeks ago attributing the mogul’s rise in the polls to a temporary “loss of sanity” among the GOP base. After Trump said Megyn Kelly had “blood coming out of her wherever” Friday night, candidates like former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Carly Fiorina were also quick to criticize the reality show star.

On Saturday an impassioned Paul told voters that Trump is the “consummate insider” and a “chameleon.” He charged that Trump has been “on both sides of every issue.”

“What’s Donald Trump known for? Buying and selling politicians!” said Paul, who charged that Trump told the Wall Street Journal he gives politicians money “so they’ll do what the hell I tell ’em to do.”

“Where is our sense?” asked a disbelieving Paul. “Where’s our common sense? This is a guy that’s been pro-choice before he was pro-life; this a guy that was a liberal before he was conservative. This is a guy that was a Democrat before he was a Republican, before he was a Democrat, before he was an independent, before he was back to being a Republican. I have no idea if he’s conservative! We are kidding ourselves to even consider someone who is such a chameleon that he’s been on every side of every issue. Wake up, America!”

“We want somebody who’s not bound by political correctness,” said Paul. “But we also want them to make sense, don’t we?”

“Do we want someone who has maybe something a little more intelligent to say than the Mexicans are going to pay for it?” Paul challenged the crowd. “My goodness, is anybody listening to what’s being said?
