Paul slams Rubio, Clinton for hawkishness

GOP candidate Rand Paul said that he does not see any differences between the foreign policy views of Marco Rubio and Hillary Clinton, as the two are both too quick to jump to military involvement.

“I see her and Rubio as being the same person,” Paul said on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday morning. “They both want a no-fly zone. They both have supported activity in Libya, the war in Libya that toppled [Libyan ruler Moammar] Gadhafi, an intervention that made us less safe. they both have supported pouring arms into the Syria civil war, a mistake that allowed [the Islamic State] to grow stronger. And they both supported the Iraq War, so I mean whats the difference?”

Paul added that he defined a neo-conservative as someone who believes in big government both domestically and internationally” and that “Hillary Clinton fits the bill better than any but she’s also the most likely of all the candidates to get us back involved in a war in the Middle East.”

Among all the candidates in the GOP field, Paul is the most adverse to U.S. military involvement in foreign countries. Clinton, has often been criticized for her actions in the Middle East during he time as secretary of state, especially her actions in Libya, which Paul referred to as a “disaster.”

Paul also criticized the other Republicans for being too hawkish, including former Vice President Dick Cheney, who has often criticized Paul’s foreign policy views.

“Yeah, well you know, Dick Cheney has been wrong about most of the foreign policy over the last several decades,” Paul said. “The last time he was right was when he warned the first George Bush that it would be a mistake to topple Hussein because you’d have chaos and instability and you’d destabilize the region, which is exactly what happened after the Iraq War.”
