Poll: Donald Trump doubles support in three weeks

Donald Trump has surged to second place in new GOP poll.

Trump, with 11 percent support, now sits in second place in a newly released Fox News poll of 2016 Republican presidential candidates. This is good news for the real estate mogul: in the same poll roughly three weeks prior, he had just 4 percent support.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush maintains first place with 15 percent support, up from 12 percent three weeks ago.

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson came in third with 10 percent, followed by Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker with nine percent each.

Walker has experienced a slide: In Fox’s last poll, he was tied for first place with 12 percent support.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (8 percent), former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (6 percent), Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (4 percent) and former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina (3 percent) and former Pennsylvania Gov. RicK Santorum (3 percent) rounded out the top 10.

Fox News will hold a debate later in the summer for the top 10 contenders, which means garnering enough support to be in the top 10 is extremely important.

Many contenders fell outside the top 10 in Fox’s poll, including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry — they all had 2 percent.

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and former New York Gov. George Pataki garnered just 1 percent of support.

The telephone-based poll of roughly 1,005 registered voters was conducted June 21-23 with a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
