Rev. Al Sharpton and Fox News host Megyn Kelly got into a heated exchange Wednesday night over Ferguson and Black Lives Matter, after Kelly accused Sharpton of misinterpreting the Justice Department’s investigation.
The spat began when Kelly asked Sharpton, “Do you feel bad” about his comments that Ferguson, Mo., police officer Darren Wilson did not kill black teenager Michael Brown in self-defense.
“No,” Sharpton responded. “Don’t distort what the DOJ said. They did not find evidence to prosecute him on civil rights.”
The two then argued back and forth over the Justice Department’s findings in the Ferguson case and the decision not to indict Wilson, including interviews of witnesses to the shooting. Kelly said Sharpton needs to give more deference to the Department of Justice’s findings.
“You don’t talk to all the witnesses! The DOJ does,” Kelly shot back at Sharpton after he commented about the witnesses interviewing on his TV show and with the Justice Department. “They get people in there and it can be a crime to lie to an FBI agent. It’s not a crime to lie to Reverend Al.”
“Megyn, calm down.” Sharpton said.
“Now watch it with ‘calm down,'” Kelly warned. “Ask Bill O’Reilly about that. I had to lecture him on that one himself.”
