Networks spare no expense for royal wedding

The royal family won’t be the only British institution shelling out major bucks for Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton. Media outlets will also be spending big money to cover the event.

“It’s a major event and that takes resources and people,” said Jeffrey Schneider, senior vice president at ABC News, which will offer live coverage of the April 29 nuptials. Networks are said to be spending most of their money for covering the event on transcontinental travel arrangements, custom-built studios, photographers and cameramen, as well as bidding for highly-paid royal commentators like Katie Nicholl and Andrew Morton. Not to mention paying for hotel accommodations in one of the world’s most expensive cities.

“It’s a story that we would not consider scaling back on,” said Dennis Moore, entertainment team leader for USA Today.
