DHS chief thanks Secret Service for job well done

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson took a victory lap of sorts Saturday, thanking the Secret Service and others for securing this week’s nuclear conference and the White House Easter egg roll without a hitch.

“This week the Secret Service coordinated and successfully implemented the security for the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, attended by 32 Heads of State or Government,” Johnson said in a release.

“This very same week, the Secret Service provided the security for the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, which, this year, involved the screening and processing of over 34,000 guests through 20 magnetometers prior to entry on to the South Lawn,” Johnson said.

Johnson’s statement attempted to dismiss the suggestion that the agency, which he oversees, is receiving praise for doing its job without evident problems.

“Yet, this is business as usual for the Secret Service, without any hint of fanfare or self-promotion,” Johnson said.
